Reality Search Analysis set out in VERSIONS |
|
Version One - A Line of Logic this is the house. This 139 pgs |
The Pontifical Commission's document "The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church" says semiotic analysis
"proceeds from the assumption that certain forms of logic and meaning underlie the narrative and discursive
organiwation of all discourse." The book Line of Logic shows how there is a line of thinking that moves from
the gospel of Mark into Matthew, Luke, Acts of the Apostles and then John. However there is no mention of the gospels
and an attempt is made to put the steps in this line of logic into generic rather than
|
religious language. The gospels
are referred to here as "five ancient texts". The book has an Appendix One that follows steps in the "line of logic" with
cartoons. These same cartoons are used later in the book Workshops: Is Christian Morality Unique? Part 2. The books
Appendix Two moves through the analysis in the form of questions and answers. So, in a sense, one could work out the
headings even without the direction of the gospels. This is in line with Plato's question and answer approach to students.

Version Two - Value Frameworks this is house This is the237 pgs |
Version Two - Value Frameworks uses the same generic wording for the headings and steps in logic that reaches over
the four gospels and Acts of the Apostles. However it is acknowledged here that the "five ancient texts" are the gospels.
The focus in this book remains on the "line of thinking" followed through in the
|
gospels and at this stage there is no mention
of gospel chapters and verses. An Appendix at the end demonstrates how the "paragraph pairs" that form the sections of the
text have a range of parallels between them besides the key one of, for example, place.

|
Version Three - Two World Views this is the house. This is 63 pgs |
Version Three - Two World Views is in A4 size and consists of two parts. The first consists of the steps/headings
of the analysis to be found in the first two versions
|
of the analysis.
The second half of the book repeats these headings
and at the same
time details their location in the text.
|
|
Version Four - Five Pivotal Texts this is the house. This is 596 pgs |
Version Four - Five Pivotal Texts, in A4 size, contains all the text of the gospels and Acts of the Apostles subdivided into the
analysis according to the headings set out in previous versions. The text itself is a paraphrase of the literal
|
translation to be found in the RSV Revised Standard Version of the New Testament
There is also some reference to the original Greek.
The chapter and verse location of the paragraphs are provided here but not for the individual verses.
|
|
Version Five - Translation Analysed this is the hou554 pgs |
Version Five - Translation Analysed, in A4 size, is the literal translation of the Revised Standard Version of the
New Testament as provided by Rev. xxxxxxx. The literal translation is subdivided according to the analysis and with
the same
|
headings as the previous versions. Single verses are also numbered. The text is duplicated with permission from the British Treasury which now owns the copyright, though perhaps the copyright has now expired. |

Is There a Critique of Greek Philosophy in the Gospels? this is the house. This 359 pgs |
Is There a Critique of Greek Philosophy in the Gospels? contains an outline of the analysis in its Part Two. This
book appears to be the one most frequently downloaded from the internet. Perhaps this is because its
|
Part One describes the
social philosophers dating from Plato and Aristotle. It also shows how the tension between these two philosophers follows
through into the tension between Judaism and Hellenism within Christianity.
|
|
Is Christian Morality Unique? Part 2 this is the house. This 206 pgs |
Part Two of Is Christian Morality Unique? is available on its own and in combination with Part One.
Both Parts have an "im primatur" which means they do not contain material which is
against Catholic Church teaching. Part Two outlines the "outlier" situation of the analysis in current scholarship because it takes a sociological approach to the text rather than the dominant approach of Historical Critical Exegesis. It again provides an outline of the analysis in Mark, Matthew and Luke as also the second part of Luke's gospel called Acts of the Apostles. The book then has a pause in order to deal with the philosophical hermeneutics of Hans Georg Gadamer whose writings emerged from Nazi |
Germany. Gadamer deals with the excesses of the Enlightenment.
There are parallels here with the
excesses of a Hellenistic society which are pointed out in the gospel of
Luke. Gadamer claims "the play", "the portrait", tradition and "the word" act as subjects because they change the participant.
They cannot be objectified. Also "the word"
as subject constantly shifts in meaning and in this sense is alive. Gadamer claims the significance of history can only
be understood from
the perspective of time. He talks about the "anonymous will" that shapes history. He endorses the view of Heidegger
that "being is time".
Part Two of Is Christian Morality Unique? then looks at the realitysearch analysis in the gospel of John. Here,
there is an echo of Gadamer (or rather vice versa). Jesus in John's gospel emerges as the Living Authority (cf.
the will of God) and the Living Word.

Workshops: Is Christian Morality Unique? Part 2 this is the house. This is 35 pgs |
Workshops: Is Christian Morality Unique? Part 2 can also be found in the workshops of both Parts 1 and 2.
It uses the cartoons of Appendix One in Line of Logic. It also illustrates Gadamer's claims about the
|
subjectivity of the portrait, tradition, anonymous will and language. Arguably these workshops point to the cosmic
dimensions of Christ which in turn, has relevance to a cosmic understanding of the Eucharist.
|
|
Powerpoint Workshops this is the house. This is 137 pgs |
This is a pdf version of the powerpoints which could be classified as a book. There is also an aural version
of the |
powerpoints. In both cases the analysis is worked through step by step, after an introduction. |
